PENZANCE TO LANDS END

DISTANCE: 15.30 MILES

START TIME: 0730 HRS

FINISH TIME: 1458 HRS

TOTAL DISTANCE: 977.30 MILES ISH

Today was going to be a mixed day. Firstly Bas and I had to detour out 5 miles to the Methodist's church where Cis is resting. We had arranged to meet Joyce, ken, Joyce sister and husband by the grave in order to lay flowers and record the moment on you tube for Deb, Linda and Ron, so they had a video of the resting place. The location sitting atop a hill and overlooked the Farm that cis was evacuated to during the war.

It is a perfect spot for her. Joyce was the daughter of the family that cis stayed with. I know it was a very happy time for her and she visited Joyce over the years staying at the farm. It was very much home to her. bas and I carrying flowers arrived at the cemetary at 0930 hrs and waited for joyce and the family to arrive. Myself and bas layed the flowers out thinking we had done agood job. However that was not the case according to joyce who promptly re-arranged the flowers muttering not bad for men I suppose.

We left ther at 1100 hrs and promplty cut across the downs to Lands end. OOPs a bad decision, the tracks clearly marked on the map had been reclaimed by the farmers and we ended up travelling on the A 30 towards lands end. We , Managed to cut to the coast and came into lands end. Well The last time I was there it only had a hotel, wow it now caters for tourists and looks quite pants if the truth be told. The sign showing lands end is now owned by a photography company and is fenced off. I tried to nip over the fence for a photo by the sign itself, but no the idiots would not allow me the photo. hence to say some words were spoken and when they offered to take a pic at a cost of £10.00 they were swiftly told to go forth and multiply. We had an audience by this stage and lets just say no one thereafter had a photo taken by the coy. Robbers they be. You walk over 977 miles for charity and then have to pay for a photo, all I can say is anyone who goes there shun them.

We felt a bit flat on arrival, it was a bit of an anti climax, as we both knew that we still had one leg to complete the following day. Our start time was 0300 hrs pick up taken to Oakhampton, walk then to tiverton and catch a train to reading. No Celebration for us then. We will have to fit it in at a later date.

My many thanks go to all those who took time off work to walk with me or put me up in there houses. To all those who rang during my trek keeping my spirits high, especially, Phil, Goerdie, Laurence. My thanks go to the Charity and to deb, who constantly were there supporting me. My thanks go to all those kind and generous people who donated to this wonderfull Charity. Thanks Thanks and more thanks.

The whole journey was filled with many high points and a very low point. That low point will stay with me forever. To all those who have found the blog a help, great. If you need help planning or advice as to routes you should avoid, then please contact me, via the site. Look out for next years walk, i think I might take on the challenging Hills in Holland.

All the spelling mistakes are mine and I don't care.
