Bas and John Selkirk both joined me for the days walking. The route should have been 20 miles following old roman roads and seeing old roman forts. The tracks were clearly marked on the map, what could go wrong. Well the forestry commission in Scotland like to decimate forestry (a bit like the romans), blocks by the miles. Therefore after 10 miles the clearly defined track on our right was not there, instead a newly planted forestry block was in its place. We diverted and 4 miles later on we had exactly the same thing, only this time we had no option than to hit the nearest road and tab all the way to Moffat. It was a great day even though our mile count went up to 25 miles. I had a great day with John as we rememered old stories whilst bas did all the Map reading. Even though a long day it was a great day, john had travelled 2 hours in order to set off with us so early, thanks john and I hope its not to long before we see each other again
